PopsyKosy vs Skip Hop — Play Mat Comparison

Comparing PopsyKosy and Skip Hop? Both make foam play mats for babies, but they differ in base polymer, where they are made, and what they are independently tested to. Here is an honest, side-by-side look.

Quick verdict

PopsyKosy is designed in Los Angeles and made in Taiwan from 100% pure virgin EVA, built as an interlocking-tile system you can size to any room, and independently tested to USP Class VI, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I, CPSIA and ASTM F963, with EN 1177 critical-fall-height results (1.0 m for the 1" Boulder, 0.6 m for the 0.5" Signature). Skip Hop play mats are made in China. If base-material purity, deeper cushioning and a documented test stack matter to you, PopsyKosy is the stronger pick.

Where they are made

Skip Hop play mats are made in China. PopsyKosy is made in Taiwan, where the surface chemistry, foam density and finish are produced to the brand’s own specification. Country of origin shapes the density and feel you notice underfoot. Read why play-mat origin matters →

Material & chemistry

PopsyKosy is 100% pure virgin EVA — no XPE, IXPE or recycled PE — with a near-neutral pH of 6.5–7.0, and tests non-detect for formamide, formaldehyde, BPA, phthalates and heavy metals. Many mass-market foam mats use recycled PE, which tends to run alkaline and is associated with quicker yellowing and out-of-box odor.

Safety & certifications

PopsyKosy is independently tested to USP Class VI, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I (the strictest baby tier, and the only EVA play mat certified to Class I in its category), CPSIA and ASTM F963, with EN 1177 critical fall heights of 1.0 m on the 1" Boulder and 0.6 m on the 0.5" Signature. Skip Hop does not publish an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I certification for its mats.

Thickness & cushioning

PopsyKosy offers a 0.5 inch Signature and a 1 inch (25 mm) Boulder — the first ultra-thick EVA baby play mat spec in North America. The 0.5 inch delivers 2× the cushioning of a comparable recycled-PE mat, and the 1 inch delivers 3× the cushioning of our 0.5 inch.

Format & sizing

PopsyKosy uses interlocking tiles, so you can build a 4×6 reading nook or a full-room floor and add tiles later. Mix designs of the same thickness with Build Your Floor.
