ASTM D5511 is a laboratory method for measuring anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials under high-solids digestion conditions. A result applies only to the sample identified in the report and the stated test conditions.

It is not, by itself, proof that a finished consumer product is home-compostable, industrially compostable, accepted by curbside recycling, or able to break down within a particular time after customary disposal. A report for an additive, pellet, film, or another polymer should not be presented as a finished EVA play-mat result.
