PopsyKosy Installation: How to Unbox + Lay Flat

PopsyKosy mats arrive rolled in a single box. No assembly required (single-piece molded — no tiles to interlock, no glue, no tools). Below is the unboxing + first-day flattening guide.

Step 1 — Open the box

Use scissors to cut the box tape along the long seam. Don't use a knife inside the box — the TPU top film could be scratched if the blade slips. Lift the lid + remove protective wrapping.

Step 2 — Lift the mat out

Mats are rolled with the print-side facing inward (protects the TPU during shipping). Lift the rolled mat out of the box — should be one continuous cylinder.

Weight varies by size: 4×6 ft (~4-5 lb) · 6×8 ft (~8-11 lb) · 8×12 ft (~16-21 lb) · 10×12 ft (~20-27 lb). One adult can carry sizes up through 8×12 ft; 10×12 ft is easier with two adults.

Step 3 — Unroll in the destination room

Carry the rolled mat to where you'll use it. Place the rolled end against one wall or edge of the play zone. Slowly unroll across the floor (gently — don't fling).

The mat may have slight curl at the edges from being rolled in the box. Don't worry — this flattens within 24-48 hours of laying flat.

Step 4 — Position for anti-slip

PopsyKosy has a built-in EVA grip base on the underside. Once positioned, it shouldn't shift during normal use. Tips:

  • Lay on clean, dry floor (sweep first if needed)
  • Hardwood, laminate, tile, polished concrete — all work for anti-slip
  • Carpeted floors — works but slight cushion-on-cushion may make mat feel softer than intended
  • Avoid placing on top of dust/debris — the grip base works best on clean surfaces

Step 5 — Wait for curl to flatten

Newly-unrolled mats may have ~3-5 inches of edge curl. This flattens naturally:

  • 0-24 hours: Curl reduces ~70% as EVA returns to room-temperature shape
  • 24-48 hours: Mat is fully flat for daily use
  • Acceleration tip: Place light flat weights (books, sealed water jugs) on the curled edges for 24 hours to speed the flattening process
  • Don't: Use heat (hair dryer, heating pad) to accelerate flattening — heat softens EVA + can deform the mat

Step 6 — First-day wipe-down

Optional but common: wipe the mat surface with a damp cloth + water (no soap needed for first use) to remove any manufacturing residue. PopsyKosy ships with very low residue (USP Class VI + OEKO-TEX Class I means tight QC), but some parents prefer first-day cleanliness.

What if my mat arrived damaged?

Photograph immediately. Email hello@popsykosy.com with photo + order number. Replacement shipped within 24-48h. No return of damaged item required (Amazon's insurance covers).

Can I lay PopsyKosy on top of an existing rug?

Yes — the EVA grip base works on most rug surfaces. Shag/high-pile rugs may shift the PopsyKosy slightly · low-pile or flatweave rugs are stable underneath.

Can I lay PopsyKosy on top of carpet?

Yes — but the cushion-on-cushion combo makes the mat feel softer than intended. Carpets with thick padding may make the mat feel unstable for crawling/standing baby. Optimal surface is hardwood/tile/laminate.

Will it stay flat in winter when room is cold?

Yes — EVA holds shape in normal indoor temperature range (15-30°C). Below 10°C the EVA can feel slightly firmer; above 35°C it can feel softer. Don't place near radiators or in direct summer sun.

Should I remove the OEKO-TEX label?

The OEKO-TEX label is part of the certification documentation — keep it (often on the underside) for warranty + resale value purposes. Don't cut or remove.

Can multiple PopsyKosy mats be joined?

Possible to lay two mats side-by-side, but they butt-up rather than interlock. The seam between two mats is visible. For continuous large floor area, buy one bigger mat (10×12 ft) instead of two 6×8 ft mats.

Total install time: 5-10 minutes from unboxing to ready-to-use.

Disposal of packaging

  • Cardboard box: Curbside recyclable
  • Plastic wrap (if any): Plastic film recycling at grocery stores (usually a return-bin for plastic bags)

FAQs

How long does the curl take to flatten?

Usually 24-48 hours of lying flat. Light flat weights on curled edges speed this up. After 48 hours, edges should be fully flat. If you still see curl after 1 week, email hello@popsykosy.com — may indicate a manufacturing issue.

Can I cut the mat to fit my space?

Don't recommend — the edges aren't sealed-after-cut, so cut edges may show minor EVA fraying over years. If you need a custom size, email hello@popsykosy.com — bespoke sizing may be possible for institutional orders.

Will the mat shift when my baby crawls?

No — the EVA grip base provides anti-slip stability on hardwood, laminate, tile, and polished concrete. On carpets the cushion-on-cushion can feel slightly less stable but still works for normal baby movement.

Should I treat the mat with anything before use?

No treatment needed. USP Class VI EVA + OEKO-TEX Class I + USFDA antiviral coating means the mat is ready to use as-shipped. Optional wipe-down with damp cloth for first-day peace of mind.

Can I install PopsyKosy outdoors (deck, patio)?

Not recommended for permanent outdoor use. EVA can degrade with sustained UV exposure (months of direct sunlight). Short-term outdoor use (occasional picnic, photo shoot) is fine. The waterproof TPU surface handles brief rain exposure, but the mat shouldn't be left outside.
