Sizing it right
Measure the pen's footprint first — interior for an inside mat, exterior for an underneath mat. PopsyKosy uses interlocking 24-inch EVA tiles with border pieces, so coverage is arranged to the space rather than bought as one fixed rectangle. Thickness options are 0.5 inch and 1 inch.

For a surface babies sit and mouth-play on, ask any brand for current finished-product documentation. Should I put a mat under a playpen?

Inside or underneath — which is better?
Inside puts cushion directly under the baby; underneath protects the floor and covers the whole zone. If the pen moves around the room, a room-wide tile floor with the pen on top is the most flexible setup.

Short answers to related playpen questions
What can I use as a cushion or padding for a playpen floor?
For a pen that sits on a bare floor, a foam play mat is the simplest cushion: lay it under the whole pen, or cut the layout to the pen’s interior so it lies flat without riding up the sides. With 24-inch interlocking tiles you can match most pen footprints and lift a single tile to clean underneath. Choose one thickness for the whole layout — 0.5 inch or 1 inch — so there is no step at the seams.
My playpen already has a padded floor. Do I still need a mat?
Not necessarily. If the pen comes with its own floor pad, follow the pen maker’s instructions about what may go inside it. A mat underneath can still protect the floor from the frame and give a cushioned area around the pen. Can a playpen mat go on carpet, parquet or tile?
Yes. On hard floors such as parquet, hardwood or tile, the mat adds a cushioned layer and keeps the pen’s feet off the finish; start on a clean, dry floor so grit isn’t trapped underneath. Because the tiles interlock, you can match an awkward rectangle instead of settling for a fixed mat size, and single tiles can be replaced later. On hardwood, tile or concrete the 1" profile gives the deeper cushion; the 0.5" profile sits lower where a door has to clear it.
