What’s inside the mat, and how we document it.

What are PopsyKosy mats made of?

Pure closed-cell EVA foam — no PVC. The core is USP Class VI-tested, and we use OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I materials where supported. Designed in Los Angeles, made in Taiwan.

What is EVA, and how is it different from PVC or PEVA?

EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) is a soft, closed-cell foam. We use pure EVA — not PVC (which contains vinyl chloride) and not a PEVA blend.

Are the mats latex-free?

Yes — EVA is not natural rubber latex, so the mats are latex-free.

How do you document that they’re non-toxic?

We keep the paperwork: CPSIA (which restricts lead and certain phthalates), ASTM F963, EN71 and EN 1177 where applicable, with formamide reported as not detected (N.D.) and a skin-neutral pH of 6.5–7.0.

Do they contain formamide or formaldehyde?

Our testing reports formamide as not detected (N.D.). Our journal has a plain-English guide on formamide vs formaldehyde in EVA mats.

Are they free of lead, BPA and phthalates?

There’s no PVC, and CPSIA testing restricts lead and certain phthalates. BPA is associated with hard polycarbonate and epoxy — not EVA foam.

What does “USP Class VI” mean?

It’s a recognised biocompatibility test standard; our core is tested to it.

What is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I?

A material-safety certification. Class I is an infant-contact material category used for baby articles where supported by current product documentation.

Is there a smell out of the box?

Minimal. A faint new-material scent can appear on unboxing; air the mat out for 24–48 hours and it settles.

Why does new foam sometimes have a faint scent?

It’s mostly air trapped during packaging. Unroll the mat, let it breathe, and the scent fades.

Do they off-gas strong chemical fumes?

No harsh chemical odor — we choose low-odor EVA. Airing on unboxing is all that’s usually needed.

Are the colours and inks part of the tested product?

Yes — the finished, coloured product is what carries the certifications listed above.

Are they safe for babies?

They’re designed for supervised family floor time. Supervision still matters, especially with infants.

Are they safe around pets?

Yes — they’re made for cleanable, cushioned zones around bowls, beds and play corners.

Is it OK if my baby mouths the mat?

It’s not a chew toy — discourage chewing and supervise. The surface is documented EVA, but it’s meant to be played on, not bitten.

Are they fire-resistant?

We don’t make fire-safety claims. As with any foam, keep the mat away from open flame and high-heat sources.

Thickness & Sizing

Choosing between 0.5" and 1", and building your floor.

What’s the difference between 0.5" and 1"?

Both use the same documented EVA. The 1" gives deeper cushioning and a quieter room; the 0.5" is lighter and lower-profile.

Which thickness for a crawling baby?

The 1" — the extra cushion is kinder for crawling and early standing on hard floors.

Which thickness for lighter use?

The 0.5" is ideal when you want a slimmer profile or lighter mat.

What is 1" in millimetres?

Roughly 25mm.

What sizes and coverage are available?

Interlocking tiles let you build the footprint your room needs — see each product for its coverage, or use Build Your Floor for a whole room.

Do the tiles interlock?

Yes — puzzle-tooth edges, with straight border pieces for a clean finish.

Are the border pieces included?

Yes — straight edge borders come with the set to give a flat, finished edge.

Can I cover a whole room?

Yes — the Build Your Floor bundle is made for full-room layouts.

Can I add more tiles later?

Yes — the layout expands whenever you need more coverage.

Is it easy to move or rearrange?

Very — the tiles are light, lift apart at the seams, and re-lay in minutes.

Will the 1" fit under my door?

At a full inch it is thicker, so check the clearance under doors that swing over the floor, or lay the tiles to leave the door’s path clear.

Can I cut tiles to fit an odd space?

We don’t recommend cutting — the interlocking edges and borders are designed to fit together. Plan the layout to suit your space.

How heavy is a set?

Light enough to carry and rearrange easily — one of the quiet perks of foam tiles.

Are the patterns reversible?

Many designs are dual-sided, so you can flip to a second look whenever the room changes.

Will it match my decor?

The palettes are warm and neutral, designed to sit with your furniture rather than shout over it.

Is the surface textured or glossy?

Subtle and matte — a gentle texture that adds grip and keeps the look calm.

Will the pattern fade?

With normal indoor use the colour holds well. As with any furnishing, avoid long spells in harsh direct sun.

What designs do you offer?

Do you have a stone-look design?

Yes — the Boulder range has a calm, stone-look surface.

Can I mix colours or build a custom floor?

Can it replace a rug?

Many families use it exactly that way — it’s designed to look intentional in a living room.

Are the edges smooth?

The straight border pieces give a clean, flat edge around the layout.

Is the underside patterned too?

On reversible designs, each side carries a pattern — so it looks finished whichever way you lay it.

Does the texture make it slippery?

The opposite — the subtle texture is there to add grip underfoot.

Will colours look exactly like the photos?

Screens vary slightly, so shades can look a touch different in person. Our lifestyle photos give the truest sense of tone.

Care & Cleaning

Wipe-clean, everyday household care.

How do I clean my mat?

Wipe with a soft cloth and a little mild soap, remove residue with a clean damp cloth, and dry fully before use. Avoid bleach, acetone, abrasive pads, and steam.

Is the surface really wipe-clean?

Yes — the closed-cell surface is made for routine household care. We describe it as wipe-clean, not antimicrobial or sterile.

Is it wipe-clean?

The closed-cell surface resists spills — wipe them up promptly and dry the area rather than letting liquid sit.

What about stubborn marks?

Work slowly with a gentle soap solution and a soft cloth. Skip solvents and scouring pads, which can dull the surface.

How do I remove crayon or marker?

Try mild soap and a soft cloth first. Avoid harsh solvents, which can damage the finish.

How do I clean up food or milk?

Wipe promptly with mild soap and a damp cloth, then dry — the sooner, the easier.

Does it stain?

Wipe spills promptly and it stays looking fresh. Leaving coloured liquids to sit is the main thing to avoid.

Can I use a disinfecting cleaner?

If you choose to, follow the cleaner’s label, test a small area first, and wipe away residue afterward.

Can I machine wash it?

No — it’s wipe-clean only, not machine washable.

Can I steam clean it?

No — avoid steam and heat, which aren’t good for foam.

Can I vacuum it?

Use a soft setting and go gently over the seams and edges; avoid aggressive beater bars.

Can I use baby wipes for quick spots?

For small spots, yes — then dry the area. Avoid leaving heavy residue behind.

How often should I clean it?

As needed — a quick daily wipe keeps it looking its best.

How should I store it?

Make sure the mat and floor are fully dry, then stack the tiles flat or roll them loosely.

What should I avoid using on it?

Bleach, acetone, abrasive pads, steam, and harsh solvents.

Using Your Mat

Everyday life on the floor.

Will it slip on hard floors?

The textured underside plus interlocking tiles help it stay put. On very smooth floors, keep the surface clean and dry for the best grip.

Is the top surface textured?

Yes — a subtle texture that adds grip and keeps the look calm rather than glossy.

Can I really leave it out in the living room?

That’s the whole idea — the patterns are designed to sit with your furniture, beautiful enough to leave out for guests.

How do I set it up?

Lay the tiles on a clean, dry floor, press the puzzle-tooth edges together, and finish with the border pieces.

Can I use it over underfloor heating?

Keep to normal, comfortable room temperatures and avoid direct high-heat sources — concentrated heat and foam don’t mix.

Is it good for floor exercise or yoga?

The cushioned surface is pleasant for gentle floor time and stretching. It’s designed as a play mat rather than a dedicated gym mat.

Can I use it outdoors?

It’s designed for indoor use — that’s where it looks and performs its best.

Can I lay it over carpet?

It works over low-pile carpet as long as it lies flat; very thick pile can make it feel less stable.

Is it good for tummy time?

Yes — the cushioned surface suits supervised tummy time.

Will heavy furniture dent it?

Concentrated weight can leave a temporary impression in foam. Use wide feet or coasters under heavy items.

Can I put a play gym or toys on it?

Yes — spread the weight and avoid dragging sharp-footed items across the surface.

Does it help reduce noise?

Yes — the cushioned tiles soften footfall and play noise, and the 1" especially makes a room feel quieter.

Will my toddler pull the tiles apart?

They can pop apart at the seams — supervise, and they press back together in seconds.

Is it textured with socks?

The textured surface helps, though very smooth socks will always slide a little on any surface.

Can I use it for messy play or crafts?

Yes — its wipe-clean surface is handy for messy play; just clean up promptly.
