Play mat thickness

Thinner play mats (5-8 mm) feel "firm" and look sleek but provide minimal protection against falls. The standard recommendation for crawling-to-cruising-age children is at least 12 mm; for early walkers, 12 mm (0.5″) or 25 mm (1″) depending on tier or more is appropriate to clear the ASTM F1292 threshold for ~30-inch falls.

PopsyKosy ships exclusively at 12 mm (0.5″) or 25 mm (1″) depending on tier. We tested 10 mm and 12 mm prototypes during development; only 12 mm (0.5″) or 25 mm (1″) depending on tier cleared the safety threshold while maintaining the wipeable, interlocking-tile structural integrity we wanted.

Why this term matters at PopsyKosy

This safety-adjacent terminology is part of the foundation we built PopsyKosy on. Every PopsyKosy mat is engineered to USP Class VI biocompatibility (the testing tier used for medical-device components polymer chemistry) plus OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I certification (the strictest textile-chemistry tier, originally written for infant skin contact). These two standards combined define the safety bar most playmat brands do not meet.

The mat is designed in Los Angeles, precision-manufactured in Taichung, Taiwan — not in China, not in mixed-ownership facilities. Each pattern is single-density-molded tile EVA (no tile seams to peel, no foam delamination, no adhesive layers to off-gas).
