Why I Made This Mat

When my daughter started tummy time, I couldn't find a play mat that I'd actually want to live with - one made for supervised baby floor time, and beautiful enough to leave on the living room floor without apology.

I'm Grace — an Asian-American mom of two and the founder of PopsyKosy. Before I started this brand, I spent years in design and consumer goods. But nothing prepared me for the moment I laid my newborn down on a play mat and realized I had no idea what was actually in the foam.

The big-box mats were loud, plasticky, full of warnings I couldn't decode. The aesthetic ones were beautiful — but most weren't third-party tested for the things that matter (formamide, phthalates). And almost none came in the thickness I needed for an older toddler still falling.

"A baby's first floor should be the softest, most carefully considered surface in the home. I wanted to build the mat I couldn't find."

So I built it. PopsyKosy started as a personal hunt for a single mat that was supported by current product-specific testing records, dual-thickness, and visually quiet enough for our living room. Two years and seven style families later, that hunt became a brand.

Every mat we ship is something I'd put under my own kids — and my mother-in-law's living room rug.

PopsyKosy was founded in 2021 by Grace, a mother who wanted a play mat that felt beautiful enough for the living room and documented enough for everyday family floor time. The options she saw often forced a trade-off: practical mats looked temporary, while prettier mats did not always make material details easy to compare. So she built her own.

A Mother's Standard

Grace started with a non-negotiable: 100% EVA foam core + 100% EVA printed film surface — an all-EVA construction, made in Taiwan, with a material story the brand could explain clearly. PopsyKosy's current documentation includes USP Class VI-tested EVA and baby-contact material standards such as, CPSIA/CPC, ASTM F963, EN71, REACH, and Prop 65 documentation where applicable.
