PopsyKosy Care & Cleaning Instructions
PopsyKosy mats are designed for multi-year use across one (or multiple) children. The care routine is simpler than tile-based mats — but specific products will damage the TPU top film + USFDA-registered antiviral coating. Below is the official care guide.
Routine cleaning (daily / weekly)
- Daily: Dry wipe with a microfiber cloth (or soft dry mop). Removes dust + crumbs.
- Weekly: Damp wipe with water + mild dish soap (Dawn, Method, or any standard mild dish soap is fine). Dry immediately with a clean cloth.
- Spills (immediate): Wipe with water + cloth. The TPU top film is waterproof; spills sit on the surface and don't soak through.
Stain-specific cleaning
| Stain type | What to use |
|---|---|
| Food (yogurt, puree, milk) | Water + mild dish soap · wipe immediately · no soaking needed |
| Juice / wine | Water + mild dish soap. If stain remains: dilute hydrogen peroxide (3%) test on hidden area first, then dab — DO NOT use bleach. |
| Marker / crayon | Magic Eraser (Mr. Clean) works on PopsyKosy TPU surface without damaging the antiviral coating. Test on hidden area first. |
| Vomit / diaper accident | Immediate wipe with water + mild dish soap. The USFDA-registered antiviral coating (99.99% pathogen reduction) does the antimicrobial work. Don't additionally disinfect with bleach. |
| Pet accident | Same as above. Enzyme cleaners (Nature's Miracle) work but test on hidden area — some enzyme cleaners are mild enough not to damage TPU. |
| Adhesive / stickers | Citrus-based adhesive remover (Goo Gone) — test on hidden area first. |
What NOT to use
- Bleach — damages the TPU top film color over time
- White vinegar at full strength — can erode the antiviral coating bond layer (see vinegar on play mat for details)
- Alcohol wipes at high frequency — occasional use is fine, daily use degrades the TPU finish over 12+ months
- Steam cleaners — the heat can soften EVA at the seamless edges and cause warping
- Abrasive scrub brushes / steel wool / scouring pads — scratches the TPU top film
- Solvent-based cleaners (acetone, mineral spirits, paint thinner) — dissolves TPU
Antiviral coating preservation
The USFDA-registered antiviral coating (Registration #3010700940) is molecular-bonded to the TPU surface — not surface-applied. Independent testing shows 95%+ retention after 900 wash cycles. Routine cleaning (daily dry wipe + weekly damp wipe with mild soap) does not degrade the coating. The coating delivers 99.99% reduction across COVID-19, SARS, H1N1, RSV, Enterovirus, TB, Polio, Hep A, E. coli, and S. aureus — this is the antimicrobial protection you're paying for and you don't need to add a separate disinfectant routine.
Storage
PopsyKosy mats are single-piece molded — they don't fold flat without crease lines. For storage:
- Roll, don't fold. Roll the mat with the print-side facing inward. Use a strap or large rubber band.
- Stand vertically. Store rolled mat upright in a closet or against a wall. Don't stack heavy items on top.
- Temperature: Storage temperature between 15-30°C / 60-85°F. Don't store in garages exposed to extreme heat (over 35°C / 95°F) — EVA softens at high heat.
Multi-year longevity
Single-piece molded EVA + TPU top film with molecular-bonded antiviral coating is designed to last 5+ years across multiple children. Customer reviews at the 18-30 month mark consistently report no curling, no degradation, antiviral coating still active. Resale value pattern: 55-72% MSRP after 18-30 months in the secondary market (Facebook Marketplace, Heritage Trade-In program). Tile-based competitors typically resell at 20-35% MSRP because adhesive seams fail.
FAQs
Can I put a PopsyKosy in the dishwasher?
No. PopsyKosy mats are too large for any home dishwasher, and the heat from a dishwasher cycle can soften EVA. Wipe-clean routine is the correct cleaning method.
Can I machine-wash a PopsyKosy?
No — single-piece molded EVA doesn't fit in a home washing machine and would damage both the mat and the machine if attempted. If you need machine-washable, you're looking at a different product category (e.g., Ruggable or Tumble — see vs Tumble).
What if my baby/dog soils the mat overnight?
The waterproof TPU top film means nothing soaks through. Wipe with water + mild dish soap in the morning. The antiviral coating handles bacterial/viral disinfection automatically. No special enzymatic cleaner needed.
Does sunlight fade the print?
Minimal fading expected over 5+ years of typical indoor exposure. The EVA print film uses UV-stable inks. Direct outdoor sunlight (windows with no UV filter, all-day sun exposure) may show slight color shift after 3-5 years — well within most use-case timelines.
How do I clean the bottom EVA grip base?
Flip the mat over, wipe with a damp cloth + mild dish soap, dry. The bottom rarely needs cleaning — it doesn't get spills.
What if my mat starts to curl at the edges?
Single-piece PopsyKosy mats shouldn't curl — that's a tile-mat failure mode, not a single-piece failure mode. If you see curling within the 2-year defect warranty, email hello@popsykosy.com with order number + photo. Standard defect warranty replacement applies.
