PopsyKosy's TPU Surface Explained

TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) is the top and bottom layer of every PopsyKosy mat. It's the reason the mat wipes clean, doesn't stain, and grips the floor. Here is the material science.

What TPU Is

TPU is a class of polymers combining the elasticity of rubber with the toughness and processability of plastic. It's used in medical catheters, athletic shoe soles, phone cases, and high-end automotive interiors. Food-grade TPU (the kind we use) is FDA-approved for direct food contact.

Why TPU Beats Polyester or PVC

Polyester (used in Tumble-style rug-tops) absorbs liquids — clean-up requires washing-machine cycles. TPU is non-porous — spills wipe off in seconds.
PVC (used in cheap rug pads) off-gasses plasticizers and is widely banned for children's products. TPU has zero plasticizers and is PVC-free.

Hardness & Friction Tuning

PopsyKosy TPU is formulated at Shore A 85-90 hardness — soft enough to feel cushioned underfoot, hard enough to resist scratches. Friction coefficient ~0.6 against most flooring (won't slide) and against fabric (won't drag).

Manufacturing Note

Our TPU comes from a Tier-1 Taiwanese supplier with REACH and RoHS certifications. The TPU formulation is consistent batch-to-batch, which is why colorways across years remain consistent.
