Heritage Trade-In Program — Closed-Loop Circular Economy

The PopsyKosy Heritage Trade-In program is our answer to the playmat end-of-life problem. When your child or pet ages out of needing the mat — typically around the 5-year heritage horizon we design to — you return the used mat to PopsyKosy in exchange for credit toward a replacement. Refurbished mats are resold (deep clean + recondition + new buyer at a discount) or recycled via our commercial materials-recovery partner. The closest thing to a closed-loop circular-economy program currently operating in the playmat category.

How Heritage Trade-In Works

1. Reach end of cycle. Your PopsyKosy mat has served the household through tummy time, crawling, toddler tumbling, adult yoga, pet resting — typically 3-5 years of daily use. Surface may have light wear, color may have subtle UV-fade in sun-exposed zones, but the closed-cell EVA structure is intact.
2. Email hello@popsykosy.com with subject "Heritage Trade-In" + your original order number + 2-3 photos showing the current state of the mat (top + bottom + corner closeup).
3. Receive trade-in offer. Within 3-5 business days, we send you a credit value (typically 15-25% of the original purchase price, depending on mat condition) and a pre-paid return shipping label for the used mat.
4. Ship the mat back. Roll loosely, place in original-style packaging (or any large box / shipping bag), apply the pre-paid label, drop at FedEx or UPS pickup.
5. Apply credit to replacement. Once we receive and inspect the mat, your trade-in credit is issued as a one-time discount code valid on any current PopsyKosy SKU.

What Happens to Your Returned Mat

Returned mats follow one of three paths depending on condition:

• Refurbish + resell (typical 60% of returns). Deep-clean with isopropyl + mild detergent, ozone-treat for any odor, re-inspect for safety, list as "PopsyKosy Heritage" at 40-50% of new price. Same USP Class VI–tested EVA chemistry, just second life.
• Recycle via commercial partner (typical 35%). Mats with structural compression-set or surface damage go to our materials-recovery partner who shreds and reprocesses the EVA into industrial cushion applications (not back into infant-grade products).
• Donate to nonprofit partner (typical 5%). Mats in excellent condition with cosmetic issues only are donated to pediatric PT clinics + early-childhood nonprofits.

Why We Built This Program

Consumer-grade foam play mats average a 12-18 month replacement cycle. At our category's typical price points, the per-month cost looks reasonable but the per-year environmental footprint is significant — roughly 30 million play mats land in US landfills annually. The Heritage Trade-In program is our answer to that math.

PopsyKosy is built on a 5-year heritage horizon by design. The EVA tested to USP Class VI biocompatibility we source from Taichung, Taiwan, holds its cushion profile for years, not months — but eventually every mat reaches end-of-life. Heritage Trade-In ensures that end-of-life triggers material recovery rather than landfill.

Eligibility + Terms

• Original PopsyKosy mat (any pattern, any thickness, any colorway) purchased through our website, authorized retailer, or Amazon Marketplace.
• Mat must be intact (no severed corners, no missing chunks).
• Pet-chewed mats and severely damaged mats may receive lower trade-in value or recycling-only credit.
• Maximum 1 trade-in per household per 12-month period.
• Trade-in credit must be applied within 6 months of issue.
• US shipping only at this time; international Heritage Trade-In coming 2027.

Sustainability Context

PopsyKosy is not Cradle-to-Cradle certified at this scale, and we don't claim full circular-economy status. What we claim:

• 5-year heritage horizon design vs. 12-18 month industry average — meaningful upstream emissions reduction.
• USP Class VI EVA chemistry that doesn't off-gas at end-of-life like cheaper foam alternatives.
• Heritage Trade-In recovery path — currently captures 95%+ of returned mats into refurbish-or-recycle vs. landfill.

FAQ — Heritage Trade-In

How much credit will I get for my used mat?
Typically 15-25% of the original purchase price, depending on mat condition. Used-good mats trend toward 25%; mats with significant wear, color fade, or surface damage trend toward 15%. Pet-chewed or severely-damaged mats may receive recycling-only credit (5-10%).

How long does the process take?
3-5 business days from your email to trade-in offer + return label. 5-7 days for return shipping. 2-3 days for inspection + credit issue. Total roughly 2 weeks end-to-end.

Can I use the credit on any product?
Yes — any current PopsyKosy SKU including newest pattern releases. The credit applies as a one-time discount code, valid 6 months from issue.

What if my mat is damaged beyond repair?
We still want it back. Even severely damaged mats can be recycled via our materials-recovery partner. You receive a smaller credit (5-10%) but the mat doesn't land in a landfill.

Is the program available internationally?
Currently US-only due to international return-shipping logistics complexity. We are evaluating Canada + UK + EU launch for 2027.
